Are you happy in your life, or about your life? That is a distinction that must be clearly defined.
A regular state of happiness can be defined as an immediate, in-the-moment experience, on the other hand, positive life satisfaction is happiness that exists when we think about our lives as a whole, in its totality by looking at the big picture.
Through absorbing the thoughts of people like Thoreau and Emerson, and developing a minimalist mindset, many are finding that a simpler lifestyle provides greater life satisfaction than a relentless pursuit of materialism.
We can be happy 'going nowhere', but when we are happy with where we've been, and where we're going, that is thriving and flourishing. Then we can have peace and contentment in our lives. We then can call this state positive life satisfaction.
Here are the key factors that contribute to positive life satisfaction:
Having positive self-esteem. Having a positive mind set and being positive about ourselves is the number one factor in having positive life satisfaction. High self-esteem helps us in our relationships, we are confident in growth and achievement, and we stay positive during times of adversity.
Having stability and control in life. Knowing we are in control of our life circumstances and having a true sense of security is empowers us. It increases our motivation to achieve our goals and encourages us to have faith and hope for the future.
Having positive, social relationships. These relationships offer us the ability to cope with life more effectively. Help us to manage our problems, and simply help us feel better about our lives.
Having a sense of meaning and purpose in life. Ultimately, our positive life satisfaction comes from discovering and defining our life's purpose and living that purpose and mission with passion. When we are living not only with a purpose, but a burning desire, we will develop a greater sense of meaning in our lives.
Having enough. And knowing the difference between needs and wants. Again by reading the thoughts and opinions of people like Thoreau and Emerson, and developing a minimalist view, many are finding that a simpler lifestyle provides greater life satisfaction than a relentless pursuit of materialism.
Having Faith. Being surrounded by other people either directly in a congregation or even in spirit and bound by a common belief and motivation is a contributing factor in our positive life satisfaction.
What is the constant that makes for a happy, fulfilled and satisfied life? Number one is always a positive mindset.
