Escaping Your Comfort Zone

by Michael Corthell

Your friends and neighbors are out there living life to its fullest, do you care to join them? One thing is for sure — you can’t see them from your living room.

The difference between life on your sofa and being out & about in the real world is going to be massive, so be forewarned. But be assured that it's going to be worth it.

''A dream is your creative vision for your life in the future. You must break out of your current comfort zone and become comfortable with the unfamiliar and the unknown.''
Denis Waitley

Assess your boundaries. If you want to do things differently, you have to think differently. Think about what stops you from getting out there. You know it will be at least interesting, maybe even fun. Find out what it is exactly that's keeping you fenced in.

List all your fears and phobias. This is a great self-improvement tool for anyone, introvert or extrovert. Be honest.

Eliminate detractions and cultural propaganda or at least severely limit it. Much of broadcast and cable programming is designed to inspire fear and insecurity. It makes you insatiably hungry for solutions to your insecurities. It is passive and voyeuristic. Turn it off and read some good, inspiring stuff.

List all of the things that you have always wanted to do. Many of them probably didn't happened because you lacked the skills or knowledge to do them. The information you need is there for the asking, but no one is going to come by and hand it to you. You need to go out and get it. Learning new things is important to an active, engaged mind.

Find positive examples and roll models. Surround yourself with people who are doing the things you want to do. Follow there successful adventures. Let their progress inspire yours.

Do you want to live your life to the fullest? Let go of your irrational fears. How far you want to push your limits is up to you, it really depends on what else is going on in your life. Think about what you really want out of life.

We all need to maintain a healthy balance security and comfort, but we also to push into the unknown world of adventure. Once you’ve started down this path to adventure, you will never want to return to the sofa and TV.

Let's get out there! Let's DO THIS!!
