Do You Want To Live To Be A 100 Years Old (or more)?

Longevity: long life or service.
by Mike Corthell

There are almost 80,000 people in the United States today over the age of 100 years. That is a 45 percent increase since the year 2000. Would you like to join that exclusive club? I say 'exclusive' because living to that ripe old age requires a certain life style and mind set. And if you don't do the things you need to do, you are naturally(or unnaturally!) excluded.

''Do you want to live a long and happy life? Make your life about helping others  on making contributions.''

It isn't rocket science and it is no mystery. Here are some ways to stay young and die old.

You always get your age wrong. When I was researching for the writing of this article yesterday I was pleasantly surprised to find that I have always done this. I still think I'm in my 30's. I tell people that I feel 33 years old.

You eat exclusively and a lot(of these two things). You are a vegan. What is a vegan? A dietary vegan does not eat the flesh or products from the animal kingdom, in other words a plant-based diet. Interestingly, and more importantly it is the original diet of mankind. The Eden Diet. ''Look, I have given you every seed-bearing plant on the surface of the entire earth and every tree whose fruit contains seed. This food will be for you...'' — Genesis 1:29

You are optimistic, joyful, full of hope. A POSITIVE thinker. Expect good things to happen and they will happen most of the time. Do good and good will come to you. Being a blessing to others and you are blessed. All this means less stress and more happiness.

You live relaxed, you take a nap. Short naps in the afternoon have been shown conclusively to reduce stress. A 30 minute siesta has also been shown to be good for cardiac function.

You are active and flexible. Staying active, limber and interested in physical activity is the proverbial 'no brainer'. If you are actively working your body, that action is telling your body, ''Hey, we're doing something here, let's keep us tuned up.'' It's part of the old adage, ''What you don't use, you lose.''

You have a sense of purpose. You have goals. You have hobbies. You keep busy doing meaningful things. It's plain old common sense.

You are slim and trim. Studies have shown that one of the secrets to longevity is not only being a good weight for our height but also trim in the right places. Simply, people who have trimmer waists live longer. Taking off inches adds years.

You've got PEOPLE. You have connections. Human beings are social. We like each other deep down and need the interaction and support. Do not isolate yourself.

You BELIEVE. You believe in God, a creator. Believing in a higher power reduces stress by instilling a sense of purpose and also goes back to connections. If you believe that all life has meaning, that YOU have meaning and purpose, the message is, ''Why not stick around?''

Have a great, wonderful life!
